My American Dream

By Malcholm Dark

Here lately... you've become a real bitch!

You were a beauty queen and so pristine
I was the captain of the football team.
I was so damn young, yes a trap was sprung
Now, I feel like the boy who has been hung.
This cannot be real, so what is the deal
Is this contempt for you in which I feel?

Your laughter rings free when you rag on me
That torments me so, I wish you could see.
As your anger descends, you have those moody trends
I am treated like shit in front of all our friends.
I know it is a shame, when I call you that name
But at times you are wickedly shrewd and untame.

--I had once considered you my American dream
now you screech and howl like a banshee witch.
--Please do not misconstrue what I truly mean
but here lately... you've become a real bitch!

I know not what it means, your nagging it seems
Even curses my sleep here at night in my dreams.
I wake up in a sweat, the bed sheets are wet
And there are times I wish we had never met.
Softer my voice is too, I whisper as not to waken you
"Still, you are my American dream and my love is true."

But here lately... you've become a real bitch!
