Girl, Your Smile

By carlosjackal

Mean life
Mean streets
The rain and concrete
A constant reminder

Café warmth
Shiver this cough
Look to the bar
The girl is there
So alone and afar

I take the girl’s hand
And lead her outside
She’s holding a cigarette
As though searching for light

So I hold her chin with my finger
Take the lamp from her heart
Ignite a spark
That parts the clouds
Return the lamp
And see the glow in her eyes

“How can I..”
“Girl, your smile.”

wow! good love write. Is it love, romance,....other? Great write, overall. I specialize in love poems, and I'm glad to see a well written one here on DP:)

  • A former member wrote: Cheers! Mate! So often I have difficulty commenting on your work as it usually leads me so far into the distance I cannot find my own keyboard... but this wonderful little narrative provided me just enough basis from which to launch that I could find my way home... love the way the end opens a whole world within one word.... the volumes left unspoken... sheer devotion. Perhaps some recycled tropes, but still the sentiment is unmistakable, and the reaction elicited in me, undeniable.... kudos, mate!
