11 years to Fatherhood

The pain you say
upon the sight of her familiar eyes
became
the slippery moment
of clarity
when
things you should do
become
things
on your "to do" list

parenthood isn't
a skip of the fingers
across a keyboard
of proposed forgiveness

it's the moments
in the middle of the night when vomit slings across the walls
and hopeless aching in their souls
makes for restless sleep
night upon night

and now I'm wondering why you wrote her at all...
