"Everything's going to be okay"

A promise so often made;
So seldom kept.

We love to hear these words even though we know the truth;
Nothing is ever okay all at once.

We may have moments of happiness, contentment, or even simply
A brief respite from everyday struggle,
But we know the truth.

.

.

.

Our perception of the world is only in varying levels of negativity.

Why do we enjoy pleasure? We know the sting of pain.
Why do we strive for the win? We know how it feels to lose.
Why do we seek love? We know the anguish of heartbreak.

Negativity is the life-blood of this world, as sick as that is.
We are always trying to get away from it
But it always catches up.

"Everything's going to be okay"

I wish it were true. The only way it could be
Is if there were no negatives.

But if there were no negatives
We wouldn't recognize the positives.

And if we couldn't recognize the positives,
Could they even be called as much?

Nothing is ever okay,
Yet the solace remains in those five little words.

"Everything's going to be okay"

Negativity always catches us off guard
And we need to appreciate that.

It forces our perception onto the good in the world.

    I love the way you talk as though a philosopher having a debate within himself, asking questions and drawing connections for us to answer for ourselves. Well written *salutes*

    i agree with this... like the phrase. "you don't know peace til you've had suffering..." also, in a world where there were never any conflicts...we would just totally freak out...and then have to create our own...otherwise what is our purpose...some might feel. to right the wrong and such. i enjoyed this...:)

    So very true mate, take the good with the bad, or something like that huh?

Either way, I like writes that question the meaning of words, of the way we use them, of the investment we give them... and this does that. what if there really are no negs and no pos and everything is blah... then isnt everything okay, kinda like not good, not bad, just okay... just blah... then maybe our quaint lil saying loses the whole hopeful encouragement aspect... and, eventually, isnt everything going to be just that, just blah... (a little burst of nihilism for ya) anyway, thought provoking... questioning, seeking... and I think, culturally and humanly revealing.
