Stares

By Midnight Phoenix

Look above, but do not stare, and see the void beyond
Magnificent streaks of golden air spray from the darkend pond
The will-o-wisps dance merrily to lead your eager eyes astray
Pay heed to a single wisp alone and the rest will fall and fade away

Man and fish and beast alike dwell in this ancient lake
As well as many misled travelers who have followed in their wake
The most adorned and enlightened wisp will always point the way
Not only to the heavens, but also the northern bay
