angel in the details

By Armand

why is Mommy tired all the time?
call oncologist.
arrange babysitter.
fill prescriptions
why does Mommy throw up?
call mom & dad.
make grocery list.
pick up dry cleaning.
you look pretty Mommy even with no hair.
call surgeon.
do laundry.
vacuum family room.
when will Mommy be coming home?
call rabbi.
schedule hospice.
Go through drawers.
I miss Mommy.
call goodwill.
find deed to plot.
cancel reservations for cruise.
Yes honey, Mommy's an angel now.

This poem is brutally succinct - leaving no wriggle room - the reader simply cannot look away. A powerful accomplishment I must say though...the compacted version that arrived in my e-mail as poem of the day might actually be the slightly better format. Either way....an outstanding poem :-)

  • A former member wrote: Very beautiful piece, very down to earth, which honestly only adds to the sadness... Thanks for sharing

not only was that hard to read... but just deadly sad. I decided to llok you up after finding out you could be my mothers older lover. The most freakishly blue eyes... but you knew that. this is perfect in gentleness of not saying.... tragic in it's messa
