because they couldn't sleep.

By i tremble

her flowing dress
blows in the wind
as they dance
in the rain
at two a.m.
just because
they couldn't sleep.

black mascara butterflies
fall down her
face, wings ruined
by the pounding water.

fire engine red
lipstick stains
paint themselves upon
his bone white collar.

fumbling hands rid
each other of
rain-soaked clothes
and they make love
in the rain
as two a.m.
because they couldn't sleep.
