Tomorrow

By johntaiyu

He lights me up
this kid I got,
growing taller
smarter
more of this and that
sometimes so fast
you can almost see it happen
like sunflowers
following the day
from East to West.

He's not too fond of storms
and the errant fly
that somehow got in the car in Missouri
and stayed until we reached Iowa,

but that's a kid thing,
nothing to get too worried about.

He's not at all concerned
about the injections he requires
every few hours
to stay alive

or the fact his parents are
absolutely crazy
about him
and abotu as overprotective
as you can get
without raising everyone else's
eyebrows.

He thinks computers and games
and puzzles and friends
and french fries
are about all you need in life
which is more true than not,
when you think about it.

And right now,
what with Summer here and all,
he's not too keen on bedtime,
though you can see in his eyes,
he knows it's a good thing
laying your head down
to sleep and likely dream

and maybe conquer the world
with your armies and your laughter
tomorrow when the sun comes up again.

This broke me dear. Children are such precious gifts, watching them grow up is so hard. Watching them go through such pain is even harder. My blessing to you and your family hun. This was wonderful and beautiful. As is your heart! Julia~
