Moonlight River

By Muse

Flipping stars nonchalantly into the silver-blue of the
moonlight river

Skeleton fishies swim through its vaporous waters
Aquatic acrobatics filling their time
Thickened air whistling through their ribs

And here I lie on the banks, quietly dreaming of you
Watching the current dance away with my musings
Glittering and sparkling in the reflection of my eyes

Fireflies ride the ripples, their tiny flames blinking
Burning and blazing the air with their frolicking

Illuminated with fallen angel's dust, my haven is
Surrounded by a peace-ridden glade
Everburning evergreens that hide the corpses of birds
Cawing and screeching as the flames caress them
Their molding, molting feathers continuously falling away
Their songs serenading your undeniable imperfections

The blackened air wraps around me
Obsidian fog to comfort and warm,
A soft blanket to hold you close

Near and dear to my heart you shall stay
With howls of ravenous wolves echoing through my conscience

And as I wait for my broken wings to heal,
By my river I shall love you

The imagery was powerful in this poem. I found myself drifting in thought as I imagined it all. Thanks for sharing.
