Ohio Winter (Five Haiku)
By Liz
Look! Casualties
Strewn about the autumn ground:
The leaves have fallen.
Bony clawed-hand trees
With blood-red berries beading
Like perspiration.
Valiant pine trees
Displaying lush summer green
On dead winter days.
Bone-cracking cold and
Flesh-shredding wind now torture
The smallest sparrow.
As our breath escapes--
A ghost in cold night air--it
Floats towards heaven.

You've really made exquisite imagery from a simple poetic form, the impact knocks away my breath.

"Flesh-shredding wind now tortures" I like the shivering feelings portrayed: from the fallen leaves to the 'bone-cracking cold', how our breath escapes like ghosts. Inspiring modes of Japanese poetry; well done.
