Memories

By cre

It was the memories, then
That pulled me to this place
And now the tiles are cutting into my knees
And the toilet is accommodating my face

I guess that somehow the heaving
Is expelling more than lunch
god, I knew it wouldn't be easy coming back
I just didn't know it would sting this much

I recall that this room should be blue
But it's turned a peculiar shade
And when I catch my watery reflection
I see that even I, have begun to fade

This room is by no means large
Measuring only a few feet across
But even in this small space
The reminders are enough to leave me lost

The shower, the hamper, the tub
They each hold their own special hell
Too many scenes I've wished to forget
Too many things I remember too well

The tips of my fingers travel the sink
And the cabinet which lies just below
Tugging my mind along a treacherous path
To places I don't want to go

SLAM! "Where the fucking hell are you"
Hiding in a cabinet so small
"please please don't find me please"
Tears and blood together fall

Slamming back to the present
I've got to get out of this place
Dragging myself to my feet
I pause to view my memory's face

This mirror, framed in wicker-white
It reflected me through the years
How many broken pieces of me
Have I seen while standing here

So much for leaving the past in the past
I pause, and close my eyes
Anymore, it's too much for tears
So I just turn to leave with a sigh.

So it was the memories, then
That sucked me right back in
For now I say "goodbye", until the next time
They bring me back again.

I spent about 3 minutes reading through and trying to pick one to Read! was like having my choice of sunsets… Again, another deep feeling work. Felt like I was there with you.. and I too loved your notion of the broken mirror. ~DW~

  • A former member wrote: I really like the mirror reflecting broken pieces of you. That reversal works really well, the poem as a whole was pretty powerful. Well Done.
