unintentional siren

By Sky Singer

i never asked

for this.

i never wanted

this.

i am inflicted

with a

terminal illness

and i am

highly contagious.

i will corrupt you

with compassion,

i will taint you

with tenderness,

i will bane you

with benevolence,

and i will ultimately

destroy you

with a desire

i never dreamed

you could

possess.

this is my

curse,

my incurable

disease--

to love me

is to

merely be

infected;

to pursue me

is to commit

suicide

thank you, D., for everything you taught me in so short a time
