sunflowers

By manunkind

it is summer time again,
children laugh giddily
while your mind decays in scream

summer again!
you are
softly, humidly...
frying in the
microwave oven heat of your middle america
yard
for it is surely not a garden.

and the kind of sunflower that is more weed
than flower
is the only source of color
(as far as you can tell)
in all of the pedicured neatness
of suburbia's lawns

and they crudely burst
from cracks in driveways and sidewalks...
glaring at any who dare
hack
at their tough stems

these
sunflowers,
completely
without beauty, like the sidewalks and lives
that they so rudely intrude.

summer again,
and the only excitement
is the fun inside your head
for surely, fourth of july weekend
has become so routine
that drinking budweiser after
budweiser after budweis aft budw af bu.....
and watching the neighbors set off
4 dollar fireworks
just isnt.....
?

but the voices, see,
the dwarfish creatures
that run amuck. inside the black
mists
of your head, your mind (you have a mind?)
the creatures with
shriveled faces painted with
vivid red and startling blacks, indian war paint!
crying nonsense to your cerebrum
and screaming greetings to your empty
eyesockets
now, THEY brew excitement.
even chaos, maybe.
(if you knew what chaos was, you'd know for sure)

who needs red and white and blue
who needs walmart
who needs mtv

when there is something
thats a little....
a little?

better.

!YOU THERE! its the voices speaking.
if you dont cut out every single w
in every single book
that you own.
we will leave you.
to the red, white and blue fireworks.
to newlyweds rerunS!

its summer again,
but this time,
i've got som-
we've got somethi-
something better.

*smiles* This is very deep, a beautiful incision indeed...You know why they do it, its ritual, its important on some base level to re-enact events anually, it concretes existence...I really enjoyed this piece
