for all to see

By Liz

An entire universe can hang
on the thread that holds you
suspended between sleep and wake,
in those seconds before it all breaks
and falls down on you.

A world that doesn't exist anymore
roused my naked flesh this morning,
so that the bleeding holes,
oozing my disease,
could be out for all to see.

Your comment puts me in awe of poetry's scope. Nowhere in my process did I think 'political [or] environmental statement.' But I'm glad I reached you.
