Only A Game

By Liath

I'm on my own now
Helping myself to get on
Now You have changed me
I'm half-heartedly waving to what is gone

Even if you wanted to
Neither of us can forget
And even if you really do
I would almost rather live with regret

I've turned a new page
And found the words to say
Spelled out but lacking instruction
I just didn't know how to play

Now I've played the game
From beginning to bloody end
Over and over again I've passed Go
And ended up with all these wounds to mend

Heavy words stick to my teeth
Struggling to stay anonymous
But I've never been one to stay within my bounds
My frustration is autonomous

I turned the handle and vacated the room
Found a window and stared at the moon
Purpose always branches from cause
The reason will be obvious soon

The screaming faces in the mirror
A reflection of what was shatters
Like nails on a chalkboard, blood curdling
I've lost sight of everything that matters

...It's only a fucking game...
