wreckage

By Liz

violins pour and
lights smear the road,
as we silently scream by.

you were beautiful once
when we were innocent.
a tower of gold and ice,
demolished in the night.

breathe to the beat
of windshield wipers,
or stop, with the whispers
of nothing ever again.

a body shifts
and my heart fights to swell.
crushed under this weight,
the baby cries for us.
