Savior Of My Soul

By Liath

Tonight the world is bland
Lightning streaks the sky
Such as the scars on my arm
And I wish I could fly from this land

The open wounds cry red
And the rain falls onto my head
The grateful dead lay peacefully
The intimacy retentions fall ungracefully

The problems that lie within
My downfall is driven by an engine
That is fueled by lies
Malintent and misunderstandings have made my veins thin

Let me end this night
And keep the rest of my mind
For a later time when we can look back
And speak of more than a mistake

The street light comes on
And my hands are tied
My veins long ago were dried
The monster struggles to slumber while the moon staggers on

The sky is falling
And the jagged slabs of onyx
Are crushing my head
My eyes are sewn shut

The crown of thorns
Tears the flesh from the bone
And is misshapen by the horns
My soul lays in the dirt, every flaw entirely shown

I regret my sins and things that I've done
And there's no excuse to make them alright
I kneel for forgiveness while I'm not under the gun
And I embrace the omnipotent visage of a body hanging in the night

Dancing the night away
By myself in the dark
The shadows cohere on the walls
Their message burning bright as day

You must give up to receive
Listen to the gospel given you
Have faith in what you believe
And St. Peter will wait for you

But what about those who don't know how
To let go to get what they need
What do they do now
When they fulfill their own prophecy by greed

The minions of my nightmares give me what I feed
The suffering faces in my head
Love and caring is all that I need
And know that being alone is all I dread
