Disconnected (free write)
By Liath
Disconnected
As you stroll down the street
Hands in your pockets
Gazing thoughtfully at the world around you
You seem at peace with yourself
Because at once you're not thinking of yourself
Or of anything that involves you.
Simply of the world; the good, the bad, and the non-existant.
A man and his baby girl
Learning how to walk
Happily giggling at each other
She's oblivious to the world around her
And enjoying it fully
Not knowing or wondering what may come for her
Later...in life
Whether she'll be the homecoming Queen 3 years and running
Prom Queen and date the quarterback from Varsity
Or have her feet in the stirrups
Legs spread wide
Screaming in pain
And when it's all over she'll look over to her bedside table and notice
her 15th birthday card sitting there waiting to be read and discarded,
while stroking her baby son's head, while lazily wonering who the father
is.
You never know what's in store for you
So you can only keep walking down that sidewalk
Hands in your pockets, tongue between your teeth
Humming an entertaining tune
And
Thinking about the people around you, where they might go
Because..
Somewhere along the way
You might see them again.

I love the turn this took. At first it seemed some sort of recollection of all the good little things in life and the world, but then it turned back to how sad reality really tends to be. Good work.

hmm, a clever write .. has a walk through a wheat-field type feel to it. Driving to the store and BAM. Never wake up. Nice write. [D&A]
