Urban Decay

By aXe FactoR

A piercing scream awoke my deep slumber
As I rubbed my eyes and looked out of the window in curiosity
An image of darkened black clouds strewn over the skies greeted me in a manner far from welcoming
Slowly and cautiously I approached the now rusted & squeaky iron gates
Meekly pushed it opened with all the strength I possessed.
It lets out a earsplitting shriek as I warily steps out,
My weakened flesh, but willing spirit spurring me on

The ground seems dead, shriveled & blotched
No sight of life anywhere, anyhow
It just seemed so different today; I’ve never felt so alone
I walked around this empty and soulless town once upon a time so full of color and zest
Flashes of screaming zombies seemed to escape the corner of my eyes
As I struggled on with a pounding heart & throbbing head

Smoke was filling and choking the hell out of me
As I gasped desperately for uncontaminated air
The nearby factories seemed to be the only buildings in operation
Just like the evil spirits, they churned out gases to jeer, mock & curse
Right in front of me, a floor spreads with all sorts of marine life
They all laid dying
I sweared I saw a fish crying out to me
Saying… oh dear lord, have pity on me!
The Urine saturated leaves hung from a creased tree
They wailed in the dead air for an oasis to kill their thirst
But an oasis, they found none…

Rancid creatures spotted within my field of view
Flying through the sky, marking their territory, snarling ferociously..
I’m glad that I still have enough strength and courage left in me
To inch slowly towards the playground I used to play in during my childhood
Surprisingly enough it still stands
All of ruins, badly defaced… moldy…
Tainted blood now defiles its land
As though something unimaginable had taken place
Yes… this playground no longer holds days of sunshine & innocence
Yes… it no longer hears the sounds of child’s play or laughter
A demon named computer had possessed the minds of adolescents
Branding their brains with a common surname called the Internet
Little wonder why this playground morphed into a dreaded and dead state

An enduring madness unknown but definitely showing
Messages conveyed through music scores, infected the countless beings on the low
Heavy metal clashing the brains of the already confused and lost sheep
They searched for release but in turn got obsessed…
Falling deeper and deeper into the depths of melancholy
Never to see the lights of hope and life again
Media images seeping through the veins of old and young
Contaminating them for all that’s worth
The triple X… the violence… the negative exposure they instill in films
Becoming more apparent to our young spotless minds

Mankind is on the path to regression,
As closed minds continued their aggression
Opened minds are chastised and mocked upon
No…I can’t bear to open my eyes to see
I need to close my heavy lids
Take a moment to envision the torn down world I lived in
A torrid stench of war & death,
Of suicide bombers and self-righteous religious activists
They took lives into their own hands
They spat, slaughtered and slaved
Many of whom proclaimed they killed and died for a worthy cause
Yeah.. Like real…fuck that… I don’t care a damn about what they said
A place is reserved for them after their deaths to dwell
Wanna know that place? It has a great name called hell
In hell will they realize
Themselves looking through the mirror as humanity bleeds…

All of these brought out the pent up angst, depression and hopelessness deeply buried in us
They can’t be hidden anymore, they were brought out…
Staining our lives…disfiguring us, robbing us clean
As we dragged on in dread and wallow in self-pity
No… we don’t have the right to be in this state
We ought to be happier
We ought to live for so much more
Destiny is held within our own hands
Need to wake up and set ourselves free…

Unconsciously a solitary tear slips down my face
As I mourn the loss of existence that has occurred in this world
In a while, I smothered my tears, my hair, and my clothes
& I’m now aware of this world and its complexities
In its urban decay…

damn fine write indeed! hard-hitting and creative; and as anth said, great imagery...very powerful.

Just a look at the world around us can be enough to set tears in motion at times...

the imagery was breathtaking and at some parts really came to life, such was the brilliance of the way described and the meanings behind just further enhanced this, a stunning work

This was pure and unadulterated manic; pulling my mind in a thousand different directions each demanding attention. Excellent. Welcome to DP. ~ wen
