A Light In the Dark



It’s dark around me, this prison is cold and hard,

Clutching to the faint memories of my life, a broken shard.

My perfect world has shattered, the walls have fallen down.

Leaving me vulnerable – unprotected, my soul to drown

In pain and confusion, anger and hate,

The world banded together to change my fate.

My soul nothing more than a stone sliver
Stuck below the ice of a frozen river.

Sinking to the bottom of this emotionless existence
Thinking of the sweet remedy of death, instead of resistance,

Reality is harsh and cruel-truly a world for the torn and battered

Survived by our children who are confused and tattered.

Yet through the veil of mist and shadow,

Against the world that seems so shallow,

A stream of light shines through the haze,

Guiding me back to the path from which I strayed.

A star in the pitch black sky, a light in the gloom,

Help to survive this world of mystery and doom.

Reality is harsh and cruel – full of corruption’s hard to mend

But anything is easy, with the help of a best friend.
