vanity [my fear]

By Sky Singer

jealousy

envy

stiving for
this thing called
perfection

another
pretty face
is
another
splinter
in my side,
another
piercing
reminder
that i will
never
be
good enough,
that there is
always
someone
more talented
more beautiful
more attractive
in every sense
of the word

perfection is
unatainable
yet here i am
still striving
for a
fairy tale
version
of me

...but it isn't
jealousy
or
envy...
it is my
possessive
tendancy
that
torments me

it is
the notion
that
one day
you'll find
someone else
with a
prettier smile
brighter eyes
and
arms with a
comfort
that exceeds
my own

it is
this fear that lingers:
one day,
you won't
need
me
anymore
