Holy Waters

A decade old poem when I was a bit lost. Thought I would share.~~~~~Silver~~~~~




Oh, holy waters
Hear me and help me to reflect
My mind finds no answers still
And all my thoughts have never left
This loneliness inside me grows
It seems the closer I get to you
Have I broken some holy vow
In a child can such things brew

I know I’ve been here before
Beneath the shadow of this oak
Cradled in this grass of long company
A child whispers softly his prayers
Three times now I’ve circled round in me
And from across the deep blue sea
Where memories come in waves
And remembrance is a spectre of sight
Bleeding through the blindness
Of troubled times in the see of life
Come visions of a child’s smile
And a fathers warm proud eyes
A mother singing songs of love
To a brother and I then close as the sky
Where have those days all gone
And if they are gone where am I
Would I know right where I come from
If I know not the place those days are ripe

I’ve had twenty-five years
To remember everything
And twenty-five fears
For all the pain in me
Will these twenty-five wounds heal
To feel the eternal breeze
When I’m twenty-five leagues
Under a forgotten sea

I have written poems of love and romance
Written songs to use as sonnets
Thinking back within its lair
Laid the path to something inspired
But farther back and deeper still
There is a dam choking silver gills
I would damn all the ones
Who brought on the flooding rains
If I weren’t damming myself
For engineering this grey concrete

What was once my wall
Tis now my grave
Finding this corpse
After all these years
Of a love I could not replace

How someday I’d like to be
In the world of my dreams
Where fantasy is all of me
And still, family not a forgotten sea

So god
Where do I touch ground
When it’s time to step back into reality
When it seems there is no homeland
Just a place my stuff may be
