Six Stanzas for Six-Out

By KittyStryker

this is a poem for Sixie
a poem for a guy who's been hurt plenty
and yet still left his heart open, a little, for me
an act of bravery, to be sure
to care about one as inconsistent as i-
and yet, day and night, through telephone wires
and computer keys
he has been the one to make me laugh
when i never thought i could again

yeah, Six-Out- i mean you
when i scratched beneath the veneer
there was far more to you
than callousness and cruelty
for all your badmouthed attitude
you're a sweet guy, just looking for a little joy
in a world you've seen grow grey

you know suffering quite well
slept beside her many nights
and felt loneliness wrap fingers around your throat
you survived through it, kept breathing
saw hell and channeled it into words
instead of scars; met apathy
and let it wander along its way, without you
gave me inspiration, life, light
i believe in you

you are not nearly as cold hearted
as you would have people believe
i've spent nights when your words
were the only link i had to this world
you mended broken bits
and tried to beat a little sense into my head

i know i frustrate you
when i am blinded by the glare of love
when i nod in agreement at your advice
and do it my way anyway
yet, you never shut yourself off
are always there to catch me as i fall
kiss my scabbed knees, shake your head
and not even say "i told you so"
even if you have

yeah
so you wanted a poem, Six
here it is, slivers of what i want to say
there's so much more, so much
more to who and what you are
i hope you know i appreciate you
all you've done to keep me around
hope you know i firmly believe in your future
hope you know, if you need a hand
both of mine are yours to hold

and you damn well better favoritize this poem :P
