Tainted Angel...

By A Velvet Tongue

Tainted angel
wings of dust
thy halo twined
in harrowed trust

roughly tattered
soiled and torn
a barren heart
bleeding scorn

once that face
staggered royals
blessed beauty
robbed of morals..

second nature
bred of trust
through the flesh
thy posion thrusts

Broken wings
barely flutter
towing you out
of your gutters

placing you back
on the cross
helping you feel
all you've lost

twinkling spheres
once called stars
now replacing
iron bars..

genocide ...
perfumes your pulse
chloraform chokes
disguised as rust

casting you out
of your stained life
dull edges do gleam
consider the knife

absent veins
hued of malignancy
screaming out
in faux galantry

Dust off your hem
dance weightlessly
rise once more
negotiate fantasy

the past does not stand
stock still and silenced
nor should the present
sit stagnant and chaliced

what of the future..
those golden robes....
open them blindly
draw of some hope

angel I see
tainted and taunted
behind sapphire orbs
a soul sleeping ..haunted

others like you
take pride in the night
rehearsing rejection
cast out from light

rest now and dream
safe in your mind
later we'll walk
your hand in mine

do you beleive in reprieve
in second chances?
where you a good student
learn all of the dances?

sit now and tarry
near to my side
let me now tell you
of this guilt laden tide

You too will see
I am like thee
I've broken my wings
no more to soar free..

it was a great story
one would almost believe
the resemblance .. uncanny
could this angel be me..??

You are one of the few poets that can blow me away with a rhyming poem. You, like the great Cohen, rhyme as though that is simply the way we are supposed to speak. I really liked the flutter/gutter stanza. I could feel the struggle.
