The Dragoness Fall

By Loneal

Strong solid snaps as leather wings
cut through the freezing air
This is her kingdom, here she rules all
Bound by no creature
Unfettered in this hall

Sinuous scales slide in the numb heights
She dances to her own rhythm
This is her life, the blood raging from heart
Racing the wind wolf
Victorious, deadly, dart

Silvered seers say she is the last of her kind
Alone, ay, and unknowing
This is her curse, in her bright solitude
Never to meet equal
Destroying all who intrude

Still, she strides through her world
oblivious to the isolation
This is her treasure, and guard it she will
For, yet, none have been worthy
And she must always kill

So sunlight says awaken now
Take up thy post, Great One
This is her challenge, scalding this fire
The weak shall all perish
Strength shall my choice sire

Skillfully she slides forth ere dawn
Enraged and Envenomed
This is her seduction, and here is her fall
For off in the twilight
Sounds, brazen, Love's call
