descent

By effervescent-efflorescence

it began with a shudder
an uneasy thought
the premonition:
something is wrong
I am in danger

freeze
don't move too much
don't draw attention
a glance starts the heart too fast

try to breathe
suffocate
everything blurs and spins
choking on sobs
this is
uncontrolled panic

they're looking at you now
turn away
try to breathe
fall to the floor
it's too late

they saw
they know

never come back.
