A Fraudulent Affair

By RaheemaFKM

I have two faces, as surely you must know, one to him I present, and the other to you I show
Treachery is the brand I wear upon my back, honesty is the game I play with loaded dice
Round my neck hangs there a noose, and on your shoulders do I stand
Pressuring your spine with force to break some better man
I expect you soon will fall and leave me to my fate
And then I’ll be condemned to haunt the Devil’s gate
I have one small heart, as surely you must know, from him I always hide, but to you alone I show
Hatred is the chain that links me to your hand; acceptance is the balm you slather on my brand
I have boiling blood you drink like honeyed milk; my skin so thick and scarred, you worship like fine silk
On many moons you swear I’m something close to fair, and then of love you speak, and odiously declare
I have many faces, by now you surely know, some to the world I present, and the rest to you I show
One small heart have I, which boldly you did take
Someday I’ll steal it back, and swap it with a fake
