A Shot and a Beer

By Meadowhawk

A shot and a beer
a thought
a place
a memory
A small house
in a quiet wood
now
just a crumbling ruin
consumed by shadows

A shot and a beer
a thought
a name
a memory
A uniformed lad
young and handsome
now
just a fading ghost
in sepia tone

A shot and a beer
a thought
a face
a memory
A little girl
with a teddy bear
now
just a haunting giggle
in tear filled dreams

A shot and a beer
a thought
a sound
a memory
A squeaking pup
with a lolling tongue
now
just a paw print
in cold gray concrete

A shot and a beer
memories
ghosts
and haunted dreams

A shot and a beer
sadness
longing
and loneliness

A shot and a beer
why
can't I drink them all away

Perhaps we hate to drink alone Meadowhawk; even if they are only our memories. Liked the effective use of your repeating lines here. Cheers my friend! - Dan

So much sorrow hinted at well enough to know that these losses were crushing. I think the repeating phrase helped set the tone for those last lines. Sadly written.

This left me with a sinking feeling after I read it., Powerful Write., Its amazing how much weight a few words can be depending on how there woven together. Much respect. Thanks for sharing. Simplistic and strait forward. One would think that nothing could linger if it didnt exist. A theory challenged by this write. (-_-)\m/

Beautiful write, thanks for sharing! As someone who has tried to drink away memories, I could easily relate to the emotions in this.
