...DUI Dreams

By SolApathy

As I became faded remains
I retained memories of shadows sustained
Thoughts of beauty and bliss enter the foray of days missed
I whisper of a kiss if dismay as I dangle from my remiss
Cognizant of bridges burned,  lovers spurned
Youthful exuberance –My excuse for those never mourned
Today I repay as my freedom is snapped away
Bound to this chair I feel the callous stares of venomous victims
I smile – A reaction of nervous youth
I gladly sat in this needle bound booth
Reparations for a smile never truly felt
If only you could see my soul melt
A bitter taste remains of this alcohol fueled fate
I whisper sorry as my body and mind you now…Take

...Memories of someone lost long long ago to the horrors of DUI.  Everyone loses.

A girl I was dating in highschool was killed by a drunk driver who then killed himself.  How does over 20 years pass so quickly?  How do those memories still surface and yet hurt like it was only yesterday.  The mind can be the worst torture device...
