Smile

What if I told you
That there was a light. 
A light that made things make sense,
Drove the darkness and sadness away,
If only for a bit. 
A light that made things feel normal,
Feel like they should be. 
But then that light
Started appearing less often. 
The darkness became heavier,
With less breaks in between. 
As the light grew almost non-existent,
It was easy to fall. 
To fall back into the darkness. 
To fall into that suffocating loneliness. 
But then the light said it was leaving,
So that even the flicker it was now
Would cease to exist. 
The darkness beckons,
But I just smile,
The darkness hidden behind my mask. 
For this is what the light wants,
So I just smile, 
As my fractured world
Crumbles around me. 
I just smile.
