Dead Memories

By Damien

Pieces of time lay out before me

Like a mysterious road that begs exploring

I can smell it's history

as if it was made just for me

it twists then turns and ends abruptly

Feeling the emptiness pressed against my face

running without aim

to the sound of children laughing, children playing

So long ago it was yesterday

where seeds become ashes and blow away

in a shallow grave....dead memories lay

to the earth and clay

my dead memories stay

What desires turn memories to dreams

when all is still, the silence speaks

for all of my sins, forgive me

burning hot and freezing cold

overwhelmed and engulfed by a sense of alone

only a shadow of the soul

Tears like rain
wash away the pain
in Jesus' name we pray
but like the Pilot, sealed our fate
I remember the smell but not the taste
remember like it was yesterday
where seeds become ashes and blow away
in a shallow grave, dead memories lay
to the earth and clay
my dead memories stay

How is it that the dead memories always haunt us the most? Great rhythm to this work, I felt myself floating down into the ground as I read, soon to be in the grave with these darkened words that couldn't be saved. -Thanks for sharing!
