A Season in Time

By Meadowhawk

A season in time
cruelly cast
amid snickering
indifferent shadows
a moaning weeping entity
whose pleading whispers
for warmth and comfort
are swept unheard
across sterile empty fields
by the kiss
of a frigid breath
that has no pity
has no conscience

A season in pain
stabbed and slashed
by the sharp
icy tongue
of an ill-tempered wind
a defenseless spirit
bitten deep to the core
by the cool stiletto fangs
of a brutally callous foe
which has no mercy
has no remorse

A season forgotten
watching
with sad clouded eyes
as a dying world
slowly withers
and crumbles
into a dull brown chaff
to be blown asunder
and silently smothered
beneath the crystal white lid
of a dark lonely tomb
without light
without life
