"Drive !" he said

By midnights voice

Frozen in thought . . .
the silver gray moon
bends the sun's will
toward an earthly gravel grave
in a Walker County strip pit

It was only yesterday . . .
when the Cougar Eliminator
prowled the highways
of disappearing white stripes
seeking out a Crescent City moon
that lay naked in the bending arms
of it's watery lover

"Drive !" he said . . .
so I hit the pedal hard
spinning tires
and burning up the moments
in haste
that I would someday regret
throwing to the stars

Like a wolf howls at the moon . . .
we howled at our youth
so far from home
unaware
we were truly all alone
in the bent light of our folly

The horizon cradled the moon . . .
slipping beyond the bridges
of our possibilities
and thinking of Macbeth
blowing out his candles

"Drive !" he said . . .
life is a stage
a four lane highway
going forward measured
by our distance
divided by our time
we are so defined

I have driven to the moon . . .
collected sunbeams
and bent the light
then drove back
howling . . .
with a midnight's voice
warm in the
South by Southwest winds

So . . . I will drive on

Hmm I have never gotten a chance to ride in this type of car. Have you? You write surreal in a way that I wish I could. I don't know why but I always feel sorry for Macbeth.

Well those cars were real and so were the times and like the car which had surreal power so did the times . Thank you again Wednesday .

This car is awesome, and I'm getting a case of leadfoot just from seeing it. Those were the days, darlin'. Rebs:).

Yes cars were a much more important in our lives than there are to today's youth . We had interstate instead of internet .

  • A former member wrote: I couldn't agree with you more. Back when I was a teenager, there was no Uber or Lyft, and the "cool phone" was the flip phone, and WiFi was unheard of. When I look at my children now, it makes me miss the simpler times; when noses weren't buried in phones or tablets, we actually learned in school, and it was safe to walk anywhere we wanted to.

My best friend (deceased now) was in love with this early version and later bought the bigger; luxury styled version. But it just wasn't the same thing. Proving again that we can't go home; but only visit for awhile in memoriam. Marvelous composition my friend - cheers! - Dan
