Double-Barrel Rifle: The Four Seasons

~ Double-Barrel Rifle: The Four Seasons ~

Summer 2005: The Season of Iron

Formed as one and torn in two
One for me and one for you
Hidden in the bedroom is a closet full of pain
Where demons count the broken toys that no one can repair
Your daddy didn’t want you and he vanished in the air
Crossed the line
Took the rifle
Put a bullet in your back
Then he gave it to your mother and she did to me the same
Then they buried us together in a grave so dark and deep
With the bullets still inside us
So that nothing could divide us
From the dark eternal memories to keep

Autumn 2003: The Season of Silver

Formed as one and torn in two
One for me and one for you
Hidden in the closet is a toy chest full of pain
Where demons count the headless dolls that no one wants to share
Your daddy didn’t want you and he threw you down the stairs
Crossed the line
Took the rifle
Put a bullet in your brain
Then he gave it to your mother and she did to me the same
Then they buried us together in a dream so cold and deep
With the bullets still inside us
So that nothing could divide us
From the cold eternal memories to keep

Winter 2015: The Season of Bronze

Formed as one and torn in two
One for me and one for you
Hidden in the toy chest is a rifle full of pain
Where demons count the haunted shadows, hiding in despair
Your mama watched you crying with an empty heartless stare
Crossed the line
Took the rifle
Put a bullet in your soul
Then she gave it to your Father and He did to me the same
Then they buried us together in a lake so red and deep
With the bullets still inside us
So that nothing could divide us
From the red eternal memories to keep

Spring 1998: The Season of Gold

Hidden in the rifle where the memories remain
Two angels forged a golden bullet born of endless pain
But then the one became as two
One for me and one for you
Come to me, unbury me and carry me away
Cross the line
Take the rifle
Put a bullet in my heart
Then inside the gates of God's delight I’ll do the same to you
Then they’ll bury us forever in a bed so warm and deep
With the bullets still inside us
So that nothing can divide us
From the bodies of our murdered children
Wakened from their sleep
By the warm eternal promises to keep
