Why Write?

I want to believe that what I write is heard
I want to believe that life's heartache can be cured
But I know that isn't true
I sit here and write my thoughts an feelings
Into poems not truly worth the reading
But here I am again
Writing out these words that fill my head
My heartache and pain the only thing I have
But why putting them into words?
I question if writing is really worth my time
Though I've been told it will help me clear my mind
But all I have found is the space that is left empty
as I sit and reflect on my life
I wish I could say I was a poet who brought about hope, laughter, and light
But all I can write is what is real
Life is no fantasy as to how i feel
and its a pity
I wish I could close my eyes and imagine a world fit to my design
Peace, happiness, and hope
A life worth living
But not even in my own mind am I safe
I close my eyes and all I can do is see the faces
Of those who hurt me, used me, and broke me
Like a shattered doll I lay amongst the words that now fill these pages
A doll who's life is no longer worth the saving
yet here I am writing again
Filling up this blank space with words from a shattered mind and a broken
heart
But at least I know what I write is real
This is my reality
This is just how I feel

I love this. As I was reading this, it got me thinking, I know how you feel when you speak of doubting whether your words have any meaning...the fact that a person reading your words has formed a new idea from it, means that it has brought all the things you say you want it to bring to the world, it may be in a tiny amount, but it has. This poem resonated with me, and a resonation is not just over a page. Resonating with ones words, I believe, gives power to words beyonds that which we could ever know. Overall, I really love this poem, it raises some interesting questions about writing that I have not considered deeply before.

This is beautiful. It sings out from the heart of most poets, at least to me. I think what I love the most about poetry is the beauty from all angles... Some are marvellous for their verse structure, imagery, but my favorite might be those that are just true and resonant of raw feeling. Those can take any form, and they are heard. You're heard, love.

He is showing us we can be more than the pain...
