For Mom (villanelle)
By dwells
Attend no deathwatch vigil at my bed
No miracles or wizardry for me
Our memories, the magic that we bled
My mortal days, alike my friends, are fled
Just hold my hand awhile; then let me be
Attend no deathwatch vigil at my bed
Adrift upon a troubled sea of red
A single kiss, a tear to set me free
Our memories, the magic that we bled
This suffering is mine alone to dread
Tomorrow offers my eternity
Attend no deathwatch; live for you instead
Another mouth will clamor to be fed,
and thankful for your selfless charity
Our memories, the things we did and said
The quickened cannot rest among the dead
I wait for you, as you would wait for me
Attend no deathwatch vigil at my bed
Our memories, the magic that we bled

Sorry for the pain. There are no words for it, maybe that is a reason poetry exists. In "JOB" his friends sit outside his tent for three days thinking of what they could say... I have nothing except sorry.

It has always amazed me how much words can convey when arranged into a symphony such as this my friend... Such a tragic event, yet the words echo so much more in silent reflection... Your pieces are always so artful and deep. Thank you for sharing such a personal memory

I found a comfort in these words. I was reminded of the final days of my great grandma. You captured so much here. My condolences.
