...Asunder

By SolApathy

Into the swift sorrow of tomorrow
Breaking-- I can no longer borrow
I am the desiccation of morrow
I look to the past, glancing fast
Well before thoughts take the time to hold
My soul no longer that bold
Heart aches of something long foretold
I never listened to my soul
Always hoping we were better, somehow – more
Young, I flung my heart into a hapless dream
You and I – Forever I thought we would beam
Light the cosmos with our universe-dreams
Bigger than life, or so we thought to be
I triggered the reality -- break in our fantasy
Asking the question- Is this real or just a dream?
Into the reality, I felt our dream melting away
Sun bearing down on this crayon display
Happiness and hope melting; swirling into disarray
Knowing it was time to pay for the sins of my smiles
Watching the memories melt away
Not a thing could I say
Your disappointed face haunts me to this day
If only you knew I saved you by walking away
Into the chaos of dismay, I begin my day—Alone
Watching you from a distance, I cried
The night you didn’t sit under the stars calling my name
I knew my abandonment extinguished our flame
I became the cold hard rain
No lightning, no thunder
Just the deafening silence
Of someone driven

Told you you'd find a perfect title. You can spin any subject you're given into pure gold. This was heartbreaking and real. It's always a pleasure to read your work.
