...Feathers of fate

By SolApathy

In the salty air
Despair of a man who doesn’t care
No one looks to see the sorrow within the shuffle of his feet
Or the glazed eyes of defeat
Minding their own meandering they can’t hear his cry
Silent as a feather drifting by
Pronounced as a train letting out its’ cry
He moves with and without purpose
Wishing for someone to stop him, please
Moving closer to the calm sea
He’s walked this bridge a thousand times you know
Always pondering the flight he could swiftly take
If only for seconds before succumbing to a cold, dark fate
Once he wasn’t always like this, a life of bliss
How can one succumb to such darkness?
With the loss of just a kiss-- next to the fire
Burning of the memory of one we miss
The fire burned out without love to fan the flame
Embers slain by life’s cold, unforgiving rain
He stares.... Into a sunset of a beauty he can no longer feel
Hands, cold on the rail, feeling the numbness as he exhales
Life was too brief
Not enough time to shake off the grief of something lost
Stepping off - he accepts
…The cost

One bridge too many, and they are cumulative as this seems to indicate in a racking retrospective of loss, and what remains. Darkly dire Sol - cheers my friend! - Dan

I don't know why but this broke me in away. I wanted to run my fingers over these words. I'm always impressed.
