....Existential darkness

By SolApathy

Of the wounds of mortals
Physical, existential, metaphysical, moral
Deep in the inner beyond
Where in the presence of something gone horribly wrong
Entrenched in the thought of which our soul fought
Was this how the evil was wrought?
In the twisted reverberations of things we couldn't quite fix
Broken beyond the magic of empathetic hands & the pharmecuticals of man
The emptiness as one surrenders to care no more
Broken and on the floor
In that moment, a fire is borne
In that moment, a fire is snuffed
In that moment, there is too much
Pain and fury, desolation, and rage, broken of faith
Will a phoenix rise from the grave?
Will you embrace the emptiness in which you lay?
A moment of dark decision, or the fire of a burning vision
Transformed or tarnished only the roll of the dice will ever
Know
I am the phoenix of the feelings in which you are caged
Look to the star-scarred sky
Scream what you are to become
Before you become
No one

We are to become igneous. This is how the phoenix rises. From below the atmosphere, sure, it seems as if its laden wings are headed nowhere. Its fire must become one with the air that even now feels too heavy. ... but...what is air when eaten by fire? The heavier, the more oxygen it gives to burn. The greater and stronger wings become. Asking these kinds of questions means you won't be numb forever, and that alone is everything to live for. Too few ever ask.
