Drums Across Time II (villanelle)

By dwells

The strongest tribe will take the biggest cave
“Injustice!” – did the lesser tribes exclaim
The heart remembers what the minds forgave

Primordial, Man’s penchant to enslave
Injustice – all through history, the same
The strongest tribe will take the biggest cave

The wealth of kings, the kingdom cannot save
Injustice – how the swain invokes your name
The heart remembers what the minds forgave

Excuse the bad behavior of the knave
Injustice – angry cudgel meant to shame
Aggrieved; no compensating what he gave

The anarchy of guillotine and glaive
Injustice – does the peasant breast inflame
No good intentions live beyond the grave

Infernal drum whose beat will soon deprave
Injustice – never contemplates the blame
The strongest tribe will take the biggest cave
The heart remembers what the minds forgave
