Anvil

By molock

lookin' for a reprieve,

but bein' held against

your will...

bound to the desires

of the heart,

that occupies the empty

space you're tryin' to

fill.

confused,

you try and understand.

you believe the answer,

...is the anvil you hold in

your hand.

swallow it down,

...take the pain.

taste the guilt,

as the anvil crushes you

again...

you're killin' yourself,

but refuse to believe.

the anvil you hold in your

hand,

is only a temporary

remedy.

lookin' for a way out,

but too blind to see.

you get tangled up,

in the chains that bind

you to your misery

Great right. The imagery is all too real. As a recovering addict myself, the anvil metaphor hit home. The solution being paradoxically the problem. Great write. Thank you for sharing. Bless.

An apt metaphor MO and don't go near the water with that anvil. My wife has gone thru hell to save a daughter similarly afflicted, when I was working full time to make ends meet. It takes a lot out of all concerned. Be well and cheers! - Dan
