Past treasure

By beamish

When I visit you in my mind

My soul goes blind   For a moment of agony as I open the door

Scared that your memories won't be my friend anymore

That the pain of time and the taste of life will have washed you into the screaming pain of nothing

But always to my surprise it's just your beautiful eyes.

The sounds of our joy rush to greet me at the door

You allow me to stay just long enough for me to realize

That the smiles of my mind come from where I am now

That the memories of then are there for a reason

So if I stay any longer our past might vanish forever

The door is closed the key hung on my neck

I'll be back one day when I need a reminder that the my present day lover is my life going forward

And you my past treasure will always be something I hold onto

But not in competition with anyone for my imagination

Just a memory of my time and how I've spent it living
