the hands of a man

By beamish

The hands of a man
       leathered and rugged

The years show clear on a face that's seen
       more than its share

Never a tear never a complaint

Just his word
        nothing in the bank

His ethics and his honor
         show his true being

The struggles of his hard fought life-worn like metals of a soldier

I call him my friend
but I was born with him as my father

An example to all others
the man is made by being a man

Not by complaining when thing seem out of hand

His mind still solid
        his body slipping away

The lesson taught by him
          I carry with me everyday

Thank you my friend for being my father

The concept of being a "man" really boils down to being productive, sympathetic, and sticking to your word... That's what I believe, anyways. It also means doing whatever needs to be done for the people you love; that's the one good lesson I've learned from my father. Excellent piece. I think it'll resonate with a lot of people.
