Steel-Clad, Sprouting Anew

By lupus tenebrae

I.)

Robins; song like spirited
Opera slipping through the umber of a
Burgeoning thicket, skittish breasts like
Instances of candlelight
Nanoseconds before it's snuffed out.

II.)

Lanterns, the thin of their flesh marred by
Yesteryear's sun; weathered husks,
Now battered by the wind,
No closer to the near-death of stubborn ground.

III.)

Spring, her steel-clad resolve
To sprout anew
Emblazoned on the hillside;
Endless and verdant
Like turbulent waters slow-
Encroaching on the silt of unwitting shore.

Author's Note:

I decided to experiment, a little, and merged the acrostic form with the list form. I wrote myself into a corner several times, so I'm just glad I have something to show for it, at all.

I'm surprised someone else picked up on that, my late mother had always been such a source of constant muse...but by the time I wrote this piece, I think I'd exhausted a lot of it, and it just didn't contain the same consistent message or earnest emotion, it felt more like an obligation. I really appreciate your comments, thanks for giving my work a read. Scholar

Robins' red breast glimpsed like "instances of candlelight" flickering briefly in the trees above "before the near-death of stubborn ground" - yeah baby! Cheers! - Dan

I feel as if I have been shot out of a paint brush. Such clever imagery and tone. Intelligent and poignant. A relevant spring time work. Much enjoyed.
