What Heralds the Imminent Spring?

By lupus tenebrae

I.

Sparrows, startled from their perch,
twittering song piercing the muffled winter air.

II.

Wegee Creek, rage loosed from its icy bonds;
restless, murky, dining on snowmelt
'til it bursts at the seams.

III.

Grass; emerald spires shone vibrant
against a dwindling sea of white.

IV.

Nature's lukewarm kiss; language
spoken in zephyrous tongue, breathing
life into a poet's once frostbitten hand.

    I have never been a fan of Spring. However, I must admit that reading this as the snow is silently falling outside made me long for it. This was quiet. I enjoyed it.
