A Pursuit of Happiness

By The Guardian Angel

You know, it just hit me that I turn twenty this year, and while that alone may not exactly be the most interesting event of my life this year, it has begun to provoke some interesting thoughts. For example, now I'm heading off to adulthood, a place that people often comment as 'the place of soulless dreams'.

Is it necessarily so? Could you say it's a soulless place when in reality it might be more acquainted with a time in our lives where our souls become malnourished. The frailty of our hopes and dreams finally gives way to the harshness of reality and our necessities. We become so intent in our white/blue collar lives that suddenly even having fun becomes a burden. Getting a drink, being flirted on, having dinner with your boss, etc. But you know, it just calls into question our ability to make fun in our own lives. How passionate truly are we about that 'pursuit of happiness' so readily given to us in our own constitution? Are we happy with simply surviving? Are we happy just getting by? Or is there a need, a burning hunger and desire to be more than just a minimalist? A carnal lust to become something more in life?

Considering my current state of existence, this was thought provoking, and makes me reflect. Thank you for that.
