phantom farewells

By Lab Rat

I am phantoms
Whispered memories, lost amongst beautiful words

Words I'm submerged
Below
Soldier, taken to task

I am shadow
Sitting solitary after atom-bomb-daydreams
Radioactive bask
On Appalachian back blow
Cast in green

Its high noon, but I won't be seen
No more shoot outs
Been outdrawn
That's my secret
What love taught me

Just a moment too late
Or
Perhaps too soon, depending

Because your view shouldn't be obscured
You did always know me
The me before here

That, though
was then
Now I am but ghosts
Whispered words
Drifting through lost memories
Tangled up in wispy
Dirty Blonde

My ever after?
Perhaps, it fits like worn gloves
Warm, snug
At times perchance too tight
The wrong fit, for the right time
A right size, for the wrong night

Maybe I'm just hoping
You'll pick me up in your peripherals
Drifting along
In my silent hauntings

Maybe you'll say hello
Or stay held silent
Either or, I feel you'll know
You're not ignored

I just had to pass over

Because I was wrong
The time tore me up
Waiting for you

I am but phantoms
You can read my history
See me in the pages
Yellowed in time
Of some book dedicated to your story

Or close the bindings
For there's nothing to me here
There's nothing left to see

The visage has gone sterile
A foolish pride
I am but a farewell
