A Balloon; Detached and Departing

By lupus tenebrae

i.)

The soft, scentless hues
of autumn, held fast in ready-
made arrangements, barely
bleached by the unforgiving sun

ii.)

Poetry, immortalized and
put to frame, unsullied by the
cruel grip of time; its breath
marred by age, laden with dust

iii.)

The promise of penny candy
imparted to a giddy inner child;
sweet tooth born of nostalgia,
innocent palate flirting with
a hardened connoisseur

iv.)

Holidays, strewn about in
vestigial ribbons, store shelves
stripped clean like desert corpses
robbed of their living dignity before
returning to the shifting earth

v.)

Memories; detached, drifting free,
spurning gravity’s oppression
and departing for Heaven

The local dollar store is closing its doors after thriving for 50 years, under many different monikers...I felt I owed my old high school hang-out a proper send-off.

I love this piece, it works on multiple levels. I especially think this works on the level of a seasonal change, like the coming of fall. Your pen works magic! Ciao, T/S Scholar

In this piece you have a very unique way of painting a picture with your words, especially with it broken up into sections like you have it. This last week my favorite restaurant since childhood was torn down after its closing a few months ago and it was heart breaking to say the least. The last day they were open my husband and I went there for a farewell meal and sat in the same booth and ordered the same meal that we did for our first date nearly 20 years ago. It was a sad moment for sure. But I am glad we did it. Thank you for sharing this. Scholar
