working class hero

By MercyRain

"a working class hero is something to be" - John Lennon

time clicking by
the days of malaise passing by
under crushing depth of emptiness

worth - suffering in the nine-to-five, nine-while-nine
and my pockets still are filled only with lint
and the busses have stopped taking IOUs
and i've run out of cigarettes
and i've run out of pennies
and the Dream seems so far away...

...a working class hero is something to be...
...a working class hero is something to be...

but they don't tell us these things when the creditors are pounding on the door
no power to the people, power to the masses
just drowning again, scrounging the landscape for pennies
where a penny on the ground doesn't mean a penny saved, a penny earned
but eleven pennies on the ground means someone dines on Raman tonight
and there's still no pennies to pay the corporates
and you can't grow vegetables on a land paved with asphalt

here, pennies on the ground is living off the land
and the sun rising on a brand new day
doesn't mean a brand new hope, a brand new chance
just another day, whiling away, scrounging the landscape for pennies
the day-to-day pain of not   quite       scraping by

and the busses have stopped taking IOUs
and i've run out of cigarettes
and i've run out of pennies
and the Dream still seems so far away

...a working class hero is something to be...
...a working class hero is something to be...
