Wayfarer

By mikeygreenleaf

Oh clouds that gather on this day
How radiant your shades of grey!
Brothers of my kindred brood
Loudly praise this sullen mood
The wind agrees with gusty sighs
Dismal 'neath the darkened skies
Men will pray to calm the seas
Casting prudence to the breeze
"Beware the kraken" some will say
Swapping tales of their dismay
I wonder if they know a truth
Indifferent to their absent couth
A greater monster lies within
The hearts of lily-livered men
Who revel not in fortunes clasp
Fates held loosely in their grasp
They sail on slowly sinking ships
Rowing fiercely with their lips
And wreck upon a rocky shore
Happy they should blame the oar
Hands out for a fellows change
Liars comfortably estranged
Ration kindness to survive
Starving charity just to thrive
These men and I are all the same
So who am I to place a blame?
For once I surely lived this way
Marooned on others heresay
Stilled myself to calm the sea
That's now a pond inside of me
Now I've learned a mindful pace
Sailing my own sacred space
